Art Around the World — Paris, France 18th Century — French Royal Court Lords and Ladies. This is a small glimpse at where fashion became fashion under King Louis XIV. This is our unique, original and one-of-a-kind lesson. Includes:

  • Attire facts
  • Royal Court Facts
  • Images of apparel — both guys and gals. Ladies wore 7-9 layers and men wore 5-6 layers
  • Images of famous artwork displaying French royal court attire
  • Palace of Versailles background and images
  • Palace of Versailles Facts
  • Paper art to create dress for Ladies and Lords — these are not flat, they become 3D!!!
  • Coloring sheets for backgrounds for your paper Lords and Ladies

We did this as part of our Art Around the World Unit in France. Girls did Ladies and boys did Lords. It encompasses everything from history, architecture, fashion, etc. I do suggest trying the "paper people" prior to a class. Order of dress is numbered and tabs get longer for the each layer you put on so that it becomes more 3D. There are also videos available online to accompany you can have students watch. As with all our lessons, they're a little open ended so you can add in or skip over what you desire but gives you a comprehensive package. We have found that students really enjoy this little trip back in history and the realization of how just simply getting dressed was pretty involved.
